Na Yeon Choi wins the US Women's Open Championship

Na Yeon Choi, 24-year-old South Korean won her first major at US Women’s Open Championship at the Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin where Se Ri Pak captured her most memorable victory in 1998, Choi was only 10-year-old at that time, but she still remember she was watching TV and from then her dream became to wining major ever.

“I didn't expect I can win this week. I just do my best every hole, and even after second round, I didn't expect how I playing this week or I want to win this week. But after third round, I thought like you know I might can win this week but I'm not going to try hard. Just do my best and keep the feeling when I was nine years old. I really wish like 14 years later from now some junior golfer or some young Korean golfer say I watching on TV how Na Yeon playing 14 years ago and that was really inspire me. That's all I want, really.” Choi smiled.

Choi is leaving to South Korea on Monday and she is going to play in Japan next week at Samantha Thavasa Tournament.

Choi shot 65 on Saturday and built six-stroke lead while wind was really blowing. She closed with 73, total 7-undr-par 4 shots over Amy Yang however, Choi had to overcome some bumps on Sunday back nine. Choi ran into trouble on the 10th hole, she hit tee-shot into the hazard and made triple bogey and that made only two shot lead instead of five.

“That moment maybe I thought I might screw up today, but I thought I needed to fix that. I can do it. So I tried to think what I have to do. So my decision is I have to talk with my caddie. So I started to talk with my caddie about just like what airplane tomorrow, or about the car or about the vacation.”

But Choi made bounce back birdie on 11th, and big par save with chipping from deep rough on 12th. Those stretch were the key holes and her momentum never stopped. Choi made two more birdies on 15 and 16.

“I couldn't believe this right now. Maybe tomorrow in Korea I can feel something. Se Ri say, hey, Na Yeon, I'm really proud of you. You did a really good job, and you were really calm out there. She talked to me a lot. And she was hugging me.” Choi said.
